Why I chose DSSRF? From the moment I discovered Digital Scholarship Summer Research Fellowship (DSSRF), I knew it was the perfect program for me. It not only aligns perfectly with the project that I had envisioned, but also provides the learning experience and research method that captivates my interest. Unlike the traditional research approaches, DSSRF, provides a unique opportunity to integrate my research with digital tools online, allowing me to learn and acquire new skills along the way.

About my project:

My project centers around building a comprehensive and extensive online database of data and relative information on the Hazara Genocide. Hazaras are one of many ethnic groups in Afghanistan, that posses distinguishable Asiatic features, practice Shi’a faith in a predominantly Sunni Muslim country, and speak a distinct Persian dialect. Throughout the history, Hazaras have endured the horrors of mass atrocities. Unfortunately, Despite persistent cases of discrimination targeted killings, and widespread persecution against fellow Hazaras around the globe, the United Nations –and other critical institutions promoting humanitarian values – have yet to explicitly recognize them. As a Hazara individual who has witnessed and experienced these injustices firsthand, I feel a deep sense of obligation to utilize the resources available to me in order to pave the path towards ending this genocide. I am united with other Hazara intellectuals, writers, artists, and individuals who are fighting for one of the most fundamental human rights: the right to live freely and peacefully, regardless of race or ethnicity.

Based on the comprehensive database resulting from my research, I aim to create interactive timelines and visually compelling maps that shed light on the locations and relevant data surrounding these atrocities committed against the Hazara people. Additionally, I have plans to develop a virtual gallery to showcase the rich history, vibrant culture, and unwavering resilience of the Hazara community.

Through my participation in DSSRF, I am excited to delve into the world of digital tools and research methods that undoubtedly assist and guide me in achieving these goals. This fellowship, provides me with an invaluable platform to acquire the necessary expertise and knowledge that will amplify the impact of my research.
