Week Seven Blog Post

My first attempt at presenting my project made it clear that I have some practicing to do.  While I can give myself some leeway because my project is not complete, my first run-through had a lot of room for improvement.  I could talk about this material all day, so I need to find a balance between a stream-of-consciousness style of presentation and a brief, factual one.  I’m afraid that I will be scared of rambling on and inadvertently make my presentation too short.  I know that I have a tendency to talk very quickly when I am nervous.  That’s probably an effort to get the spotlight off of me as soon as possible.  I used a lot of filler language, and I found myself repeating the same phrases when I couldn’t think of anything else to say.

I plan to present in a very conversational manner.  I think this is where I’m best, and I also believe that audiences appreciate that more than formal monologues.  Of course, I’ll be recording a video, so I guess I will technically be monologuing the whole time.  I’ll have to work on not making it seem like that.  The good thing about the video presentation is that I’ll have the ability to stop and start over if I mess up.  I won’t have to be perfect every time, which is a nice thing to know.
