PROJECT CHARTER
Title: The Hazara Genocide Uncovered: A Comprehensive Online Resource
Project Owner: Omid Mohammadi
Summary:
My project centers around building a comprehensive and extensive online database of data and relative information on the Hazara Genocide. Hazaras are one of many ethnic groups in Afghanistan, that posses distinguishable Asiatic features, practice Shi’a faith in a predominantly Sunni Muslim country, and speak a distinct Persian dialect. Throughout the history, Hazaras have endured the horrors of mass atrocities, recurring massacres, enslavement, and force displacement. Unfortunately, Despite persistent cases of discrimination targeted killings, and widespread persecution against fellow Hazaras around the globe, the United Nations –and other critical institutions promoting humanitarian values – have yet to explicitly recognize them. As a Hazara individual who has witnessed and experienced these injustices firsthand, I feel a deep sense of obligation to utilize the resources available to me in order to pave the path towards ending this genocide. I am united with other Hazara intellectuals, writers, artists, and individuals who are fighting for one of the most fundamental human rights: the right to live freely and peacefully, regardless of race or ethnicity.
Based on the comprehensive database resulting from my research, I aim to create interactive timelines and visually compelling maps that shed light on the locations and relevant data surrounding these atrocities committed against the Hazara people. Additionally, I have plans to develop a virtual gallery to showcase the rich history, vibrant culture, and unwavering resilience of the Hazara community.
Bulleted list of deliverables:
- Comprehensive online database: Building a centralized database and repository of data and relevant information on the Hazara Genocide, with an objective towards easy access by all concerned individuals while ensuring organization and storage of all crucial details.
- Timeline: present interactive timelines which showcase the chronology of atrocities committed against this oppressed community throughout history. These creatively designed visuals serve in helping understand better how these significant events transpired over time.
- Visual Map representation: developing visually appealing and informative maps that pinpoint the location of these atrocities, helping to visualize the geographic impact of Hazara Genocide.
- Virtual Gallery: Constructing a virtual gallery to showcase the rich history, culture, and reliance of Hazaras in spite of significant adversity, ultimately increasing awareness and understanding for their achievements.

Launch/production plan:
The project is planned to be launched at the end of August 2023. The project owner will be responsible for the updating and maintaining the project over the course of its life. Additional support and volunteer contributors will be sought for keeping the project up to date.
End of life issues:
Since the project will contain important information and databases, it will be advised to maintain a backup of the project in the personal and university-level archives. The project might as well be published on an independent website to ensure its accessibility to all the audience and further actions will be taken to keep the project up-to-date, informed, and accessible while providing the best user experience.
