I had such a great time working as a part of the DSSRF program this summer. I learned so many new digital skills, including Tableau, WordPress, and TimelineJS. These tools were a big part of my project, and I think they were incredibly useful for its enhancement. I also obtained a better grasp of my time management skills. Working on a project without specific deadlines along the way was a new challenge for me. I, like most other students, are used to completing assignments within a certain time frame. Here, the only large deadline was the end of the eight-week period (although there were some smaller deadlines along the way). I learned a lot about how I function in this sort of environment, and that experience will help me if I find myself in similar situations in the future.
I also appreciate the opportunity to work on something that interests me. I cared deeply about how my project turned out, and much of that was because I was so invested in the work I was doing. I really wanted to find the answer to my research question. The ability to choose my own research project was one of the most attractive features of the DSSRF program, and I was not disappointed. I am grateful to have been a part of this cohort, and I would highly recommend DSSRF to interested students next summer.
