Jason and I went through my project in multiple different ways. He started out by asking me to give him an elevator pitch to explain my project. I then went through my website and explained each part to him. I liked doing this because it gave me practice presenting and pulling all of the research together to form a cohesive idea. While going through he asked me many questions. I thought this was especially helpful because it replicated the types of things I would have to answer during a real presentation. After my “presentation”, I then showed him my map that I would include in my website and presented that as well. Going through this was also useful because he gave me some perspective about what information is valuable to relay to my audience.
Then, he gave me some feedback and suggestions. He thought it might be interesting for me to look at previous conflicts and the history behind each country. He also recommended that I look at the countries that were successful versus unsuccessful in each campaign and compare what they did differently. While I think these are helpful solutions, I don’t think they are viable with the rest of the time I have for this project and the data available. I think looking at the history of conflicts for each country would take a very long time, and I already have the corruption scale mapped. The other problem with adding other factors is that I suspect it might be difficult to add them to my GIS map. As for the comparison, I previously tried to find how each country distributed vaccines but I could not find the data or explanation.
Besides comparing conflicts and distribution strategies, he also mentioned that I might make a “toolkit” for the organizations and countries distributing the vaccines. By this he meant coming up with a plan for the most efficient way to distribute vaccines from the donations given by high-income countries. I think this would primarily be based on my lit review. I think this is a very good idea and something I may pursue if I continue this project. It would be a great way to suggest actual improvement to the current systems and open up areas for additional research.
Finally, Jason suggested that I make some graphics to break up some of the text I have from my lit review. I asked if he thought it was too much text and it would be awkward to have a lot of text and then a lot of maps. He said that he liked the supply chain flow chart I put in and that if I could put in other visualizations that he thought it could help. He recommended something such as a venn diagram to compare the existing problems and solutions. I like this idea a lot because I think it will be easier to look at and comprehend lists and visualizations than having to read through all of the paragraphs. I plan to use canva and maybe tableau to accomplish this and improve my website.
